5 Steps To Organizing Your Home
Hi there, KatieAnne here with some organizing tips!I own a small business based out of Raleigh, NC with a Chesapeake, VA location as well.We specialize in home organizing and helping clients find joy and peace in their space.
When you're faced with an area of your home that is cluttered, disorganized, and not clean it can be overwhelming. Don’t be discouraged, I am here to help!
First things first, evaluate the area or room you want to transform. Even if your entire home needs a little TLC, start with one area or room at a time. I always suggest to my clients that we start in the bedroom, because when that room is transformed it helps with getting better sleep and waking up feeling more refreshed and motivated to continue organizing. The second room I would say to organize would be a kitchen or bathroom since those would be your next most used rooms.
Before starting, see if you can invite a friend over to join. Sometimes it is easier to stay on task when having someone that can keep you on track. Make 3 separate areas for keep, donate, and discard for sorting. Then turn on some fun music, grab your favorite drink, and we’re ready to get the party started!
Step 1 : Take e v e r y t h i n g out. Yep, you read that correctly. If you are working in a bedroom, start with clothing, and take every piece out and lay them on your bed. Shirts, pants, dresses, etc. Take a moment to notice how much you have and figure out if you would like to let go of some items.
Step 2 : Sort through items in those 3 areas we talked about earlier. If you have a hard time getting rid of items, ask yourself if you love everything about each item. Example : “I like this shirt but I don’t like the way it pinches or isn’t flattering.” GET RID OF IT! You will always have that thought when running past that item, and when only having items you absolutely love in your closet or drawers, you’ll feel like you have more options when it comes time to picking out an outfit. Once you get the hang of this it should come fairly easy to make quick decisions.
Step 3 : Clean out the area you're transforming. Vacuum, sweep, and wipe surfaces down. A little freshening up doesn’t hurt and it makes a big difference in the feel of your new area!
Step 4 : Find matching bins, hangers, or whatever you need to spruce up the space!I highly recommend matching neutral hangers for new closets because it makes SUCH a difference. The Container Store is your friend, you’re welcome ;)
Step 5 : Place everything back in categories, keeping like items together. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you can even color code your items.
Voilà! You have a new room that brings peace and joy to you!
You can use these steps for organizing pretty much any room in your home! Please feel free to reach out to me for any questions.
With hugs,
